About
imi ("EE MEE"): JAPANESE TRANSLATION = MEANING
imi ("EE MEE"): HAWAIIAN TRANSLATION = TO SEEK, OR TO HUNT
Hi!
My name is Lauren Yamashita and I am the owner/designer of Imi ("ee mee") Jewelry. I created Imi in 2012 because I loved making jewelry for myself, and found myself making jewelry for others. Starting out as an outlet to fuel my lifelong hobby, Imi ended up being the vessel to express my overflowing creativity.
Growing up in Hawaii, I always found myself drawn to making things with my hands, trying to figure out how things were made, and if I could do it myself and/or do it better. I'm forever chasing that feeling I get when things are just right, and I know it because I can feel it in my gut. I seek for what compliments my life and makes things easier, better, and more enjoyable.
Imi Jewelry is a reflection of my personal style and growth. I've been a lifeguard, physical education teacher (which was may major in college, at the University of Hawaii), to summer fun director. On my free time, I love to go surfing, hiking, do yoga, and just hang out with my dogs and cats. My jewelry needs to be easy and carefree, so that spirit is carried on in all of my designs. Imi pieces are meant to be comfortable to wear, infuse a little sense of indulgence, and complement the wearer’s natural beauty.
I make jewelry in my Oahu home studio, with the help of another local jeweler, and my Los Angeles-based partnered jeweler. My designs are focused on “dainty statement” designs, which are usually minimal with tiny pops of flair. Each new collection is built upon the last, and pieces can be worn together seamlessly.
All jewelry is made of quality solid 14 karat gold, gold-filled, vermeil (sterling silver core with gold plating), or sterling silver. As of recently, some of my most popular designs also incorporate natural stones and accentuate existing collections.
Find imi jewelry in local Hawaii boutiques, select US boutiques, or directly online.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
